Ways to Give

The Foundation for the Developmentally Disabled relies on the contributions of our members and supporters to support our mission.  There are a number of easy ways to give – from joining as a member to naming the Foundation as a beneficiary in your will.

Join as a member of the Foundation and start receiving member benefits right away.  Following are some other common examples of ways you can give to the Foundation:

Outright gifts:

  • Cash Donations

Cash is the simplest and easiest way to make a charitable gift. The Foundation can accept outright cash, personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders.

  • Gifts of Appreciated Securities

The IRS allows you one of its most significant tax breaks for gifts of appreciated securities.

  • Gifts of Real Estate

Make a substantial gift to the Foundation through a transfer of residential, commercial, or undeveloped real estate.

  • Gifts of Personal Property

Donate books, artwork or equipment and secure an income tax deduction.

Estate gifts:

  • Gifts by will or living trust

Give to the Foundation without affecting your cash flow during your lifetime.

  • Gifts of retirement plans

Name the Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified plan.

  • Gifts of life insurance

Provide a future gift by naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

Life Income gifts:

  • Life income gifts, such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust, pays income to the beneficiary for life or a term of years.  Only after the conclusion of the term, or upon the death of the last income beneficiary, is the remainder of the life income gift distributed to the Foundation.

Gifts in Honor or Memory:

  • Memorial donations are a valuable and positive way to celebrate the life of loved one, while supporting the Foundation.  You can also honor birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions with a tribute.

Matching-Gift Programs:

  • An easy way to double or even triple your donation is to find out if your company has a matching-gift program. Such programs typically match all or a percentage of employee contributions to charitable organizations, making the employer a partner in employees’ personal philanthropy.  Contact your employer’s personnel office about your company’s programs.
